Planting, Pruning, and Caring for Old Garden Roses

Roses need sun, water and food.

Plant roses outdoors, in a sunny, well drained location in mid to late fall.

Roses like loose, organic loamy soil.

Water newly planted roses as needed for the first 2 months:  If temperatures are over 80° degrees water daily; if temperatures are below 80° degrees, water every other day.

Be sure to protect the plants from hail and heavy rain - cover if necessary.

DO NOT PRUNE your new roses right away!   In the spring, lightly prune to remove any diseased, dead, or dying canes only, and begin a feeding program and (if desired) a fungicide program.

Use only organic fertilizer for the first two years.  We suggest Monty’s Plant Food, Fish Emulsion fertilizer, and Mills’ Magic Mix liquid.
